Bald Is Beautiful Photography

Starry, Starry, Night

I have always loved the song “Vincent” by Don Mclean.  I don’t really know why, it’s just always spoke to me.  As I recently listened to it again (I don’t know how long it’s been since I heard it), it spoke again.  The song is basically Vincent Van Gogh’s life and times.  How he struggled with the aspects of life and how he captured that life on canvas.

As a photographer, or a creative type person, I can get down in the dumps.  I mean as much as I try to capture a snap of something I’ve envisioned, it just does not work out sometimes.  So I can pretty much relate to the words of the song.  Take a look at them and I believe those other creative souls out there can understand as well:

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

I had the pleasure of hanging out with some friends this past weekend at Land Between The Lakes.  The whole purpose of the trip was to catch some stars with my camera.  My friends from the Middle Tennessee Shutterbug Facebook group and I took off Friday afternoon and found a great place right on the lake for these shots.  Let me say this, IT COULD HAVE NOT BEEN A BETTER NIGHT!  Sorry, didn’t mean to yell, but it was gorgeous, no clouds, less light pollution than we have in town and friends.  If I was a drinking man, it would have been the perfect beer commercial!!!!!

The reason I mention all of this now, is someone made a comment on one of those  photos how it reminded them of Van Gogh’s Starry night painting. After watching a video of Vincent and his paintings, I can now see it!  Anyway, here’s my shots from the other day, along with a small video of the time-lapse of the trails (Star Trails Time-lapse)!  Enjoy!

The shot above is the tail end of the Milky Way Galaxy while looking North, and the on below is the other end looking South!  Knock another one off the bucket list!!!!!

Thanks to my buddies Brett Engle (Brett Engle Photography), Lee Smoot (TLS Pro Shot Photography), and Roland Mumford (Law Offices of Roland Mumford and Associates) for making this a night to remember!

Sweet Shot Tuesday. . . Getting Lost In It all!

Posted on Sep 20, 2011 in BIB Blog | 10 comments

Sometimes I just get lost, that’s all I can say!  With the hustle and bustle of working a full time job, a part time job, starting a part time photo business, and trying to be a dad, I just get lost.

Well, that’s what happened over the last 8 weeks, I got lost.  I decided it was time to move on from a Blogger hosted account and decided to jump into the frying pan known as  Wordpress.  Let’s just say this and get it out of the way, “Yes, I’ve said one too many bad words in the last 8 weeks over my site”.   Wow, I feel better.  Release and acknowledgement is really good for the soul!

But I do want to tell you what I enjoy about being lost.  It’s the freedom, growth and creativity that comes during those times of abandonment.  I know that does not make much sense, but hopefully you will understand.  While creating my new site, I had to decide what I wanted.  What links I wanted to include, descriptions of service I wanted to offer, basically the set up from scratch.  I’m happy with what I’ve got, but I will tell you this, this site is going through growing pains and changes will occur.  Puberty has come to the BIB-Photography website, and hopefully we will all survive!

Another thing I get lost in is editing photos.  I love taking a sooc image and seeing what I end up with.  When I first started this process, I received from pretty scathing comments on my photos, and it hurt.  But over the last 2 years of my journey, I’ve come to understand that only one person needs to be happy with my art work. . . ME!!!  Well except for the occasionally paying client, I’m the only one that needs to be happy!

For those that have known me and followed my photographic excursions, you know I love a good sunrise.  Well something fun and wonderful has happened over these last 8 weeks.  I am now leading a group of about 5- 15 different photographers out on the weekend searching for that remarkable life giving orb we call the sun!   What a grand and glorious thing to see my friends eyes light up when they get that perfect shot of blue hour.  Or when they figure out how to slow things down and blur the water.  All this is because of 2 internet friends, without the help, support and encouragement of Darcy (Life with 3 Boybarians) and Kent (Kent Weakley Photography), I would have never had this experience!  THANKS GUYS!!!

So without further ado, let me share with you some of my art/photos from this past weekends sunrise adventure.

Click on the photo above to view a slideshow of the images from this past weeks excursion!

So much for getting lost, I think I’ve finally found myself.  Hope all of you have a wonderful day and make sure you check out the other entries in this weeks Sweet Shot Tuesday. Make sure you comment on some of the other entries.  You never know how important your words of engorgement are and what they mean:~)
