Bald Is Beautiful Photography

Starry, Starry, Night

I have always loved the song “Vincent” by Don Mclean.  I don’t really know why, it’s just always spoke to me.  As I recently listened to it again (I don’t know how long it’s been since I heard it), it spoke again.  The song is basically Vincent Van Gogh’s life and times.  How he struggled with the aspects of life and how he captured that life on canvas.

As a photographer, or a creative type person, I can get down in the dumps.  I mean as much as I try to capture a snap of something I’ve envisioned, it just does not work out sometimes.  So I can pretty much relate to the words of the song.  Take a look at them and I believe those other creative souls out there can understand as well:

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

I had the pleasure of hanging out with some friends this past weekend at Land Between The Lakes.  The whole purpose of the trip was to catch some stars with my camera.  My friends from the Middle Tennessee Shutterbug Facebook group and I took off Friday afternoon and found a great place right on the lake for these shots.  Let me say this, IT COULD HAVE NOT BEEN A BETTER NIGHT!  Sorry, didn’t mean to yell, but it was gorgeous, no clouds, less light pollution than we have in town and friends.  If I was a drinking man, it would have been the perfect beer commercial!!!!!

The reason I mention all of this now, is someone made a comment on one of those  photos how it reminded them of Van Gogh’s Starry night painting. After watching a video of Vincent and his paintings, I can now see it!  Anyway, here’s my shots from the other day, along with a small video of the time-lapse of the trails (Star Trails Time-lapse)!  Enjoy!

What you looking at Willis?

The name for this pond. . . That’s right, “Clear Pond”.   I think Captain Obvious named this one :-)

Sunset where we decided to park for the evening!

The shot above is the tail end of the Milky Way Galaxy while looking North, and the on below is the other end looking South!  Knock another one off the bucket list!!!!!

Thanks to my buddies Brett Engle (Brett Engle Photography), Lee Smoot (TLS Pro Shot Photography), and Roland Mumford (Law Offices of Roland Mumford and Associates) for making this a night to remember!

Your Neck Of The Woods

Posted on Jun 27, 2012 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

A couple of weeks ago, myself and 14 friends with cameras (Middle Tennessee Shutterbugs) joined forces to invade downtown Nashville, TN.  Okay, invade might be a strong word, but that’s what we did!  You see, we had a dual purpose.  Objective number one, have fun, and fun was had by all!  Objective number two, to be part of a bigger picture.  That picture, to celebrate Love That Shot’s 2nd birthday ☺

If you are not familiar with Love That Shot, maybe you ought to check them out.  Not only are Michelle and Misti 2 of the greatest gals in the blog-o-sphere, they are informative, resourceful, and pretty darn smart.  I’ve learned quite a bit following their posts over at their website.

So, the photo-walk had a theme of sharing “Your Neck Of the Woods” through photographs.  Show us where you live was the rallying call on that day.  So, where do I live?  Nashville, TN. is the answer to that question.  Everyone knows Nashville is the home of the Grand Old Opry and country music.  What they don’t know about is the little dives, the side streets, the nightlife where you hang out.  One of those areas is “World Famous”, that’s right  “World Famous” Printers Alley.  The home to seedy dives, neon nightclubs and nude kareoke!  Yes, you heard me, nude karaoke.

What once was home to the printing industry around the late 1800′s, later become known as the “Men’s District”, is now known as “World Famous”.  Who knew that nude karaoke had such a following?

Love That Shot Photowalk

And to answer the question I know you are asking. . . No, I’ve never been to a nude karaoke before!

Thanks Misti and Michelle for giving us a wonderful opportunity to gather together and have fun!

Spring {Mini} Session – The Sanfords

Posted on Apr 15, 2012 in BIB Blog, Family Sessions, Uncategorized | 1 comment

Ran my first mini sessions a couple of weeks ago and had a blast.  Everytime I take pics of people, I get nervous.  I mean, amd I gonna get it right, will they like the final product, what if I really screw this up.  All these questions start popping in my feeble mind, and I freak out.  Usually it turns out Okay, and this time was no different.

Tim and Andrea are so easy to work with.  Both of them are really encouraging and supportive.  But the star of the show is Brookes!  It’s been a while since I’ve seen him, and man he has grown into a fantastic young man.  Knowledgable and fun is what comes to mind more than anything!

So here they are with a sneak peak into their Spring {Mini} Session!

Until next time!

T4 Gang-15 Sing it Cyndi! You know, there are a lot of things this picture is not!

* It’s not the best shot in the world.
* It’s not gonna win any major photo journalistic awards.
* It’s not gonna be printed for the whole world to see.

But I can tell you what it is gonna be…my

Sweet Shot Tuesdayentry for the week!I had the pleasure of taking family photos for my nephew, his fiancé and her girls a couple of weeks ago, and this pic is by far my favorite.  It’s not a staged shot, it’s just something that happened.  I mean look at the way her hair is reflected in the sun.  Look at that cute little pixie grin, it’s almost as if she is yelling at me and saying…”Come on Uncle CooCoo, you can’t catch me”!

This is what photography should be…

Make sure you check out the rest of the Sweet Shot Tuesday entries over at
