Sunrise 2014

Posted on Jan 1, 2014 in BIB Blog | 0 comments

For the 4th year in a row, I’ve led folks from a local online photography group out to shoot the 1st sunrise of the year.  This year it was a little disappointing, so I used some Photoshop skills and added some elements.  Heck it’s what I do!NYD Sunrise 2014-1

I’m In Love!

Posted on Sep 22, 2013 in BIB Blog | 0 comments

That’s right, you read it, “I’M IN LOVE”!

Most importantly and let me get this out, I’m in love with my wife, my family and my God!  But I’m also in love with something else.  Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Latte, or SFPSL for short.

Several years ago I stopped by Starbux for a cup of coffee.  Fall was in the air, leaves had started to drop, my son was playing football and they were introducing me to a new coffee.  Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Latte.  It was nothing short of Fall in a cup.  Man I could not get enough of SFPSL.  It was addictive!!!

Life speeds up, as it has a way of doing.  The years start moving like the Enterprise when Captain Kirk tells Scottie to give it all she’s got.  Yep, warp speed.  It’s Fall once again and I go into the Bux for my 1st cup of SFPSL and they don’t carry it any more :-(  I started jonesing bad, I needed a fix.  Instead of screaming “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiago?”, I was screaming for my SFPSL!!!!!

Every year around this time Starbux brings out it’s Fall line of drinks, and just for a moment, I hope, I pray, I wish for it, and then I’m disappointed once again!  NO SFPSL!  But then last week something happened.  As I was sorting through my Feedly account (which has over 475 blogs in it) I saw something that stuck out.  Emma and Elise over at A Beautiful Mess had a blog post for homemade PSL.  There was hope, a tiny speck of silver shining through that single Fall cloud in the sky.  I HAD HOPE!!!

So I asked my wife ( you know, the woman I love) if she would make the recipe sugar free and we could give it a try.  I came home from a long day of helping customers at Home Depot deal with the plumbing problems they were experiencing and I was beat!  I mean nothing can compare to the way you feel after working on a concrete slab for 8 hours.  My wife looked at me as only she can and said, “You look exhausted, go make you a cup of coffee and relax, btw, the pumpkin syrup you talked about is in the fridge”.

I made me a cup, walked to the front porch to relax and took a sip.  I swear I heard angels singing.  It was perfect!  I immediately relaxed and knew all would be right with the world.  I had a few cups and collapsed. Of course I grabbed my camera and snapped a shot of my favorite cup.  It was a Christmas gift from my in-laws.  That was Saturday and now It’s 3:30 a.m. on Sunday and I’m drinking my first cup of the day and it’s just as good as the one from yesterday!

If interested, the link to A Beautiful Mess is above.  We just changed the regular sugar to Splenda and went from there.  Props to Emma and Elise (sisters) who run a really successful blog.  I enjoy reading all they do, especially the photography aspect of it.  In fact I have a Pinterest board for DIY Photo projects that mainly come from their website!

I’m sure next time you see me, I’ll have a cup of sweet nectar known as SFPSL in my hands!

Starry, Starry, Night

Posted on Sep 11, 2013 in BIB Blog, Uncategorized | 0 comments

I have always loved the song “Vincent” by Don Mclean.  I don’t really know why, it’s just always spoke to me.  As I recently listened to it again (I don’t know how long it’s been since I heard it), it spoke again.  The song is basically Vincent Van Gogh’s life and times.  How he struggled with the aspects of life and how he captured that life on canvas.

As a photographer, or a creative type person, I can get down in the dumps.  I mean as much as I try to capture a snap of something I’ve envisioned, it just does not work out sometimes.  So I can pretty much relate to the words of the song.  Take a look at them and I believe those other creative souls out there can understand as well:

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

I had the pleasure of hanging out with some friends this past weekend at Land Between The Lakes.  The whole purpose of the trip was to catch some stars with my camera.  My friends from the Middle Tennessee Shutterbug Facebook group and I took off Friday afternoon and found a great place right on the lake for these shots.  Let me say this, IT COULD HAVE NOT BEEN A BETTER NIGHT!  Sorry, didn’t mean to yell, but it was gorgeous, no clouds, less light pollution than we have in town and friends.  If I was a drinking man, it would have been the perfect beer commercial!!!!!

The reason I mention all of this now, is someone made a comment on one of those  photos how it reminded them of Van Gogh’s Starry night painting. After watching a video of Vincent and his paintings, I can now see it!  Anyway, here’s my shots from the other day, along with a small video of the time-lapse of the trails (Star Trails Time-lapse)!  Enjoy!

lbl star trails-3 pink stars-1And for you Under The Dome fans, yes we did see pink stars!  Not really, but at one point one of the group looked up at all the stars and said, “The pink stars are falling in lines”.  Yes, we all jumped in and said, “The monarch will be crowned”.  The rest of the night was shot with nothing but all out laughter and good times.  Like I said earlier, if I was a drinking man, this would have made the best beer commercial around!

Thanks to my buddies Brett Engle (Brett Engle Photography), Lee Smoot (TLS Pro Shot Photography), and Roland Mumford (Law Offices of Roland Mumford and Associates) for making this a night to remember!

Date: Thursday October 10 – Saturday October 12

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00  p.m.

Location: Madison / Goodlettsville area (details will be privately  mailed to you)

Frequently Asked Questions

Blog9

What do I get with this Fall Session Special?

That’s a good question!

My Fall Session Special is just like my full sessions except for the price.  I normally get $150 for my photo sessions, by booking a Fall Session, you are getting a $50 discount.  That’s good right?  You’re saving money and having fun at the same time!

You will receive a DVD consisting of 15-20 photos suitable for printing, as well as 15-20 photos that have been resized for your favorite social media site!  Included will be a print release so you can print these photos wherever you would like.

May I book 2 Fall Sessions back-to-back?

Sure!  If you have a large family (more than 4-5 members) I strongly suggest this as an option.

Blog8

OK, I’ve decided to do this, so what is the cost?

Fall Sessions are $100, with $25 of that due at booking.  So, if you want back-to-back sessions, that would be $200, but if you decide to do a back-to-back session, I’ll cut you a deal and only charge $150.  Cash or checks are fine with me, I don’t do windows or plastic!  Deposits may be made after we have talked about your session.

I have a GPS, but where will the photos be taken?

When you book your date, we can decide what works best for you.  I don’t really mind traveling, but I’d rather not spend 8 hours on the road just for a 1 hour session :-(  Last year we shot mainly in the Madison/Goodlettsville area, but had one family who lived out by Percy Warner Park.  So we can be flexible as well.

If you would like to have your photos made at a really cool place, I would suggest Gravel Road Traditions.  It’s a really nice spot with props, bridges, old barns, you name it , they have it!  If this is something you would like to do, there is an additional cost.  Look over their website  (Gravel Road Traditions) and let me know as soon as possible so we can secure a time!

So, how do I get my name on the books?

Email me at Scott@BIB-Photography.com .  Please include how many will be in your mini-session, along with names and ages of any children.  I feel confident these will fill up fast, so don’t hesitate.  There are only 4 slots available each day. Just remember my saying. . . “The early bird gets the worm, and most likely the first cup of coffee as well”.

Blog7

OK, we know how Fall weather is in Tennessee, what if it’s bad on that day?

No problem, we will re-schedule, easy peasy!  If you have any questions about the weather (on the day of the shoot) , just give me a call at 615-484-5506 and ask for Scott!

When will I receive my photos/DVD?

Please allow 3-4 weeks for editing, maybe less.  It depends on how much coffee I’ve had on editing days.

Your DVD, will then be mailed to the address you provide at the beginning of the session.

What do I/we wear?

Clothes, duh!

I would not suggest you not wear the sweater you wore for the Ugly Christmas Sweater contest this last year, unless that is the look you are going for.  Seriously, what do you wear? Comfortable clothes.  If you are not comfy in your clothes, then it will show in your photos.  I would suggest bright colors, textures and layers to add visual interest.  Dressing  in layers is always a good idea.  Just in case you need to shed a few outer garments. . . remember it can still be warm in October.

(Blatant Plug for BIBPhotography~ If you know anyone looking for a wedding photographer, please give them my name!)

What do I need to bring?

Yourself, the info sheet I provide when you book the session and a good attitude :~}  Of course the reminder of the payment for your session!

When do we need to arrive?

Well on time of course, but if you can be a few minutes early that would be nice as well!

Don’t wait, cause these slots will fill up fast!

As an added bonus:

If you book your session before Sunday  September 23, I’ll throw in a set of 25  Christmas cards from one of the designs below!  Of course we will use a photo of your choice from your session.  How crazy would it be for The Smith Family to send out Christmas cards with my ugly mug on it !
